Recycle, Repurpose, Rebuild, Reuse, Restore, Refresh, Renew...

Our initial cabin is a labor of renewal and refreshing of items old and older. For the most part, our materials have been salvaged from unusable historic buildings on our property, Restore (Habitat for Humanity store), and Facebook Marketplace. Of course, there are essential items from big box stores, but we sourced as much as possible from pre-loved items.

We kicked off the hunt for materials by looking in our back yard. Around the middle of the 20th century, some of the original houses from the Ferry Point "ghost" town were moved up the ridge to be used as grain bins. There is also an historical log farmhouse which cannot be restored. As these structures are no longer in use and are slowly decaying, our adult children helped to salvage the vintage wood to use in our new projects, lending an air of authenticity while linking the past with the current construction.
